John H. McKelvey, Sr. of Schenectady, formerly of Colden Park, Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Sunday, November 19, 2023. He was 90.
Son of the late Harry and Agnes (Armstrong) McKelvey, he was born January 10, 1933 in New Paltz.
John was a retired control room operator with Central Hudson Gas & Electric at both the Danskammer and Roseton Generating Stations. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, a Little League Coach, High School and College Baseball Umpire and former member of the Town of Newburgh Zoning Board. John was also past President of the Colden Park Homeowners Association. He was a fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and the NY Rangers.
Survivors include two sons, John H. (Jill) McKelvey, Jr. of Glendale, AZ and Edward (Colette) McKelvey of Rotterdam Junction, NY; four grandchildren, Eric (Julie), Ryan, Kyle (fiancée Rachel Kremer) and Shannon (Marc Case); many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Diana M. McKelvey in 2011, a brother, Harry McKelvey and a sister, Mary Houseknecht.
All Services and Entombment will be private at the convenience of the family.
