Jacobson announces $10K in funding for Highland Public Library

Posted

Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104), last week, joined Highland Public Library Director Julie Kelsall-Dempsey and Library Trustees, Nancy Hammond (President), Fran Brooks (2nd Vice-President), Eric Norberg (Financial Officer), and Jacqui Burke (Trustee) to announce $10,000 in funding to complete its Quiet Library Project.

Jacobson said, “I am proud to announce that I am awarding a $10,000 Assembly grant to the Highland Public Library. Libraries play an essential role in every successful community. They allow young people to explore the world beyond their neighborhoods and classrooms. They also provide a way for adults to expand their skills and horizons and for seniors to enjoy programming and the chance to interact with others.

“This project will ensure that patrons of all ages get the most out of their library experience,” Jacobson concluded.

Julie Kelsall-Dempsey said, “Thanks so much to Assemblymember Jacobson for his support in completing this much-needed project. Unfortunately, the library’s tall ceilings and open floor plan have created a sound issue. Soon, acoustic glass walls and a tempered glass door will reduce the sound of children learning and playing from emanating throughout the library.”

Nancy Hammond said, “We thank the Assemblymember for this funding. A child that reads will be an adult that reads. A reader will be a thinker.”
