Irene Mack, 86, of Highland, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, 12/1/2024.
On October 11, 1938, in Ellenville, NY, Irene was born to Ida and Howard Wilhelm. After graduating from Ellenville High School, Irene worked at Channel Master in Ellenville and eventually went on to have a long and fulfilling career at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz, where she worked as a Secretary and an Administrative Assistant for over 30 years.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Howard, (Napanoch, NY) and sister Joan Mikalonis, (Kerhonkson, NY) and brother Richard “Corky” Wilhelm of (Pine Bush, NY).
Irene is survived by her husband of 66 years, Birdsall Mack (Highland, NY), her son Chris Mack (Laurie Rumpf, Milton, NY), daughter Dawn Mack (Jeffrey Guzi, Waterford, NY), grandchildren: Ashley McGarvey (Columbus, Ohio), Christopher Mack (Davis, CA) and Daniel Mack (Beacon, NY); she will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.
Irene was a loving soul, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend; she was known for her kind heart, sharp wit and love of family and friends from SUNY New Paltz and Ellenville, High School Class of 1956.
Irene also had a great passion for her country, nature, the ocean and the simple joys of life. She loved traveling, parades, fireworks, rainbows, the NY Mets and shopping with her daughter. She found peace in the beauty of flowers, enjoyed reading and had a special talent for baking delicious pies. Irene will also be remembered for her great sense of humor and a good belly-laugh.
Over the years, Irene’s home was brightened by the companionship of many beloved pets including Tony, Princess, Shadow, Pokey, Sparky, Molly and especially Bingo and Buddy who brought her much joy.
The memorial service for Irene will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ASPCA or The Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
