The Highland Public Library is gearing up for a weekend filled with cultural exploration, community fundraising, and wellness opportunities.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, at noon, dance students from Fei Tian College at Middletown will bring the elegance and history of traditional Chinese dance to the library. The interactive event, ideal for all ages, offers participants a chance to learn about classical Chinese dance and folk traditions passed down for thousands of years. No prior dance experience is required, making this family-friendly program accessible to everyone.
Fei Tian College, located in the mid-Hudson Valley, blends Eastern and Western dance traditions and is known for its dedication to preserving traditional arts.
Also on Saturday, Nov. 23, the Friends of the Highland Public Library will host their first fundraising event since reorganizing. The Jewelry Sale, featuring costume jewelry, scarves, and accessories priced at $5 or less, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library. The sale begins with a sneak peek on Friday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m., and continues Sunday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will support library programs and materials.
For those seeking relaxation and movement, the library will offer chair yoga sessions. These classes will gauge interest in adding chair yoga to the regular calendar. The classes are $10 per person. Sessions will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 4:45 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11:05 a.m.
The Highland Public Library is located at 14 Elting Place, Highland. For more information on upcoming events, visit the library or call the main desk.
