The Highland Public Library will host a series of events in October, ranging from music and history to crafts and community gatherings.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m., local harpist Candace will lead Experience the Magic of the Celtic Harp, sharing her decades of performance experience. The program is supported by funds from the New York State Legislature and Arts Mid-Hudson.

A lecture titled Trains — The Role of Rails in World War II will take place Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The discussion will cover the impact of railroads on both the foreign and domestic war fronts.

The library will also continue its Veteran Coffee Hour for adults and seniors 55 and older on Friday, Oct. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the Town of Lloyd Seniors Meeting at 11 a.m.

For children, Crafts to Go: Autumn Dress Up Llama Kits are available through Oct. 4 while supplies last. Registration is required.

In addition, the library is participating in the Ulster County Food Fight, collecting oatmeal donations through Oct. 31 to benefit the Highland Public Library Food Pantry and the Ulster County SPCA.
