Festival coming to Milton

Meet Me in Marlborough will host the 17th annual Heart of the Hudson Valley Bounty Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cluett Schantz Memorial Park in Milton.

The family-friendly event will showcase the bounty of Marlborough and surrounding communities, featuring local agriculture, attractions, businesses and causes. Visitors will be able to taste and discover the valley’s offerings.

School news
Spooky season is almost here, and Marlboro Middle School’s Innovation Lab windows are already dressed for fall, thanks to creative student artists who gave them a seasonal makeover.

Congratulations to Marlboro High School senior Noah Ernst, who has been selected to join the New York State School Music Association All-State Mixed Chorus. Chorus teacher Katie Budryk said the honor is a tremendous achievement for both Ernst and the school community. He will perform at the All-State Festival in Rochester in December.

Marlboro/Milton Lions and High School Leos, joined by district Superintendent Michael Rydell, recently volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Newburgh.

Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library
The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library will hold the opening reception for its Fall 2025 Art Show, themed “Peace,” on Sunday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. RSVP at miltonlib.org. Refreshments will be served.
Veterans luncheon

The Marlboro-Milton Lions Club will host a Veterans Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at noon at the Marlborough Community Center, 1520 Route 9W. Seating is limited. To RSVP or request transportation, call (845) 340-3190. Veteran service officers will be on-site for VA outreach.

CYO basketball sign-ups
Registration is open for the 2025–26 CYO basketball season. Families interested in signing up should complete one form per child at: https://forms.gle/XRwDkqKjFghDy9SeA.

St. Mary’s Church
The Religious Education office is accepting registrations for this year. Forms are available in the back of the church. No one will be turned away. Faith formation will begin in mid-October.

The 2026 Mass Intention Book will open Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the rectory office. Homebound parishioners may call to reserve intentions.

Fr. Tom’s day off is now Fridays, except on first Fridays, when it will shift to Thursdays. Rectory hours are Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Offices have moved to the priest house.

Lions Club vision screenings
Kindergarten students at Marlboro Elementary School recently received free vision screenings from the Marlboro-Milton Lions Club. Using a Spot Vision Screener, volunteers tested for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Each student received a stuffed lion for participating.

Weekly recipe German Apple Cake

• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup salad oil
• 2 tsp. cinnamon
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in a little water
• 2 cups flour
• 2 cups sugar
• ½ tsp. salt
• 1 cup nuts
• 4 cups apples, peel and chopped
Beat eggs and oil until foamy. Add sugar, vanilla, baking soda, flour, cinnamon and salt. Mix well. Batter will be thick. Fold in nuts and apples. Bake in a 9-by-13-inch pan at 350 degrees for 45–60 minutes. Cool and frost.
Topping ingredients
• 1 package (3 oz.) cream cheese
• 1½ tsp. butter
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 cup powdered sugar
Beat well and spread on cooled cake.

• Memorial Bocce Tournament: Saturday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m., at Cluett Schantz Park. Cash prizes awarded; half of proceeds benefit Hospice.
• Community Youth Fishing Day: Saturday, Sept. 27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Cluett Schantz Park. Open to all ages. Free. Bring your own rod and tackle. Catch-and-release. No state fishing license required. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult.
• Vet2Vet Coffee Hour: Fridays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Viebey-Sutton Post 124 American Legion, 50 Western Ave., Marlboro (temporary location due to library construction).
