Back by popular demand! Marlborough residents are once again able to access Ancestrylibrary.com free-of-charge at the Library. Research your family tree, discover new ancestors and learn more about your family’s history. This database can be accessed on the library’s  computers or using the Library’s Wi-Fi.

Funding for this three-year subscription to Ancestrylibrary.com was made possible through a grant from Assembly Member Jonathan Jacobson.

A presentation on how to get the most out of ancestrylibrary.com, followed by a hands-on workshop, will take place in the Library community room on Saturday, February 11 at 11 a.m. For more information, visit marlborolibrary.org.

On Saturday, February 11, the Marlboro Library will hold two genealogy classes, Getting Started with Genealogy and a hands-on workshop.  At 11 a.m., Getting Started with Genealogy attendees will learn how to map out a family tree, methods to record your findings, review the basics of using AncestryLibrary.com and hear about other available free websites.  This presentation will also touch briefly on popular DNA testing kits.  Please RSVP for this class at marlborolibrary.org; walk-ins welcome.

At 12 p.m., workshop attendees will apply these newfound research skills to make new discoveries!  Search through genealogical databases and websites while Library staff assist with questions or problems.  Bring your Library card and family history as far back as you know (even if it’s just your grandparents), and we will help expand your search!   Please note: Participants can attend just one or both programs. Registration is required if you would like to reserve one of the Library’s laptops, as a limited number are available. For more information and to register, visit marlborolibrary.org.  In case of inclement weather, this program will be rescheduled.

WEEKLY RECIPE

Ultimate Chicken Noodle Soup Taste of Home
Ingredients
2-1/2 pounds bone-in chicken thighs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
10 cups chicken broth
4 celery ribs, chopped
4 medium carrots, chopped
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
3 cups uncooked egg noodles (about 8 ounces)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Optional: Additional salt and pepper
Directions

1. Pat chicken dry with paper towels; sprinkle with salt and pepper. In a 6-qt. stockpot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken in batches, skin side down; cook until dark golden brown, 3-4 minutes. Remove chicken from pan; remove and discard skin. Discard all but 2 tablespoons drippings.

2. Add onion to drippings; cook and stir over medium-high heat until tender, 4-5 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Add broth, stirring to loosen browned bits from pan. Bring to a boil. Return chicken to pan. Add celery, carrots, bay leaves and thyme. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, until chicken is tender, 25-30 minutes.

3. Transfer chicken to a plate. Remove soup from heat. Add noodles; let stand, covered, until noodles are tender, 20-22 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, when chicken is cool enough to handle, remove meat from bones; discard bones. Shred meat into bite-sized pieces. Return meat to stockpot. Stir in parsley and lemon juice. If desired, adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper. Discard bay leaves.
