Janet M. Green of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was 81.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (McKeel) Kocur, she was born on September 28, 1941 in Cornwall.
“Cookie” as she was known to friends and family was a retired customer service representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Middletown, NY among other medical billing companies. She was a selfless caregiver to both her husband Bob and her companion Harry when they needed her most. In most recent years, she was a volunteer with Compassion & Choices Organization and was extremely passionate about the important work that she did with them. She was an active member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church where she volunteered at their thrift shop (Second Hand Rose), and later enjoyed “Monday get togethers” with fellow church members. She also participated in the Friendship Circle and Balancing exercise group. She had a love for all animals and whole heartedly supported the Walden Humane Society.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Dawn) Green of Wallkill and David (Susan) Green of the Town of Newburgh; a daughter, Carrie (Leonard) Shustack of Walden; and three grandchildren, Randy and Travis Green and Olivia Clavie.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Green, in 1994, her long-time companion, Harry J. Haight in 2016, her stepfather, William Esterbrook, and a sister, Jacqueline Kocur.
A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, with Rev. Martha A. Epstein officiating.
Burial was at Gardnertown Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
