Isham William Van Keuren “Van”, of Wallkill, NY, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at home. He was 90.
The son of Richard and Edith Armstrong Van Keuren he was born on April 13,1933 in Liberty, NY.
As a young man, Van served two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. That is where he married Agnes Louise “Louise”, also from Liberty, and had their first child. Van received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in education at SUNY Oswego. He worked his entire career of 35 years at Wallkill Central School District, teaching and chairing its Industrial Arts Department. Also, he and Louise operated a real estate venture for many years.
In addition to residing in their Wallkill home for 60 years, they spent 20 years wintering in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Van’s pastimes included golfing, fishing, antiquing, gardening and home repair projects.
He volunteered on the Town of Shawangunk Planning Board from 1978 through 1988, serving as its chairman for 5 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Agnes Louise (Delamater) Van Keuren. Their children are Kim Van Keuren (Tim Murphy), Richard Van Keuren (Lindsay), Pamela Van Keuren (Diane Wormser), Paul Van Keuren (deceased)and Donna Egan (Joseph). He and Louise are also the grandparents of Brendan, Niall, Connor, Anna, Grace, Devin, and Clare.
Visitation will take place Friday, September 22, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bona Ventura Avenue, Wallkill
A funeral service and military honors will follow the funeral home at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will take place at the Hurleyville Cemetery in Hurleyville, New York, 12747.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
