Highland Falls’ annual Trunk or Treat featured 23 ‘trunks’ and what seemed like about 1000 children!
It was held at Roe Park on Sunday, Oct. 27 and featured incrediblely clever designs of ‘trunks’. For instance, one was in fact a tent, all decked out like the Wizard of Oz house, with both witches in attendance! Another was a pirate ship, where, to receive a piece of candy, one had to ‘walk the plank’! There were landscape trucks full of horror; a skeleton in lieu of a patient in one of the Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps’ ambulances; and Navy Federal Credit Union got their holidays mixed up and had a ‘Winter wonderland’ set up!
O’Neill High School students turned out in full force to assist organizer Quinn Manning, a senior at the high school. There was a large contingent of JROTC cadets; the Interact Club and American Red Cross Club were giving out candy; the Reading Buddies members were giving out children’s books; and Guidance Counselor Lisa Mackey (aka ‘Cookie Monster’) had a trunk full of candy to give away.
Orange County Legislator Laurie Tautel was on hand, as were the Highland Falls Fire and Police Department.
Families – including lots of costumed dogs -- strolled through the displays, receiving lots of candy, playing games, jumping in a bounce house, and more as the day went on.
