Highland Falls holds 10th annual Saint Patrick’s Parade

“May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door.”

Last Saturday dawned a beautiful day, with temperatures in the mid-50s and the sky sunny – surely that was the ‘luck of the Irish’ smiling down on Highland Falls as the community gathered outside for the 10th annual Saint Patrick’s Parade on Main St. While the temperature began quickly dropping and a stiff wind kicked up, the sun stayed out and the parade moved north through the community. It wasn’t the greatest day for several pickup trucks adorned with larger-than-life ballons, and there was a fire call in the middle of the parade (meaning that the HFFD had to make a quick exit), but other than that, a good time was had by all.

The parade kicked off at Memorial Park where Grand Marshal Annie Scott, with the help of Highland Falls Mayor Joe D’Onofrio and Parade Organizer George Fallon, raised the Irish flag over the village. She expressed not only her gratitude for being selected as grand marshal, but also her deep appreciation for having Irish roots.

The Town of Highlands Saint Patrick’s Parade Association was established in 2015 by a group of local residents to celebrate and honor the Irish in the community. Previous grand marshals are Peter Carroll, Ann Burley, Joan Cronin, Turkey McCormick, Joseph McCormick, Eamon Fallon, First Responders and Barbara Murphy.
