Kindergarteners through fourth graders from Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School will take to the stage to perform Newsies, Jr. this weekend.

“Newsies Jr.” is a musical, based on the 1992 film and 2012 Broadway musical, that tells the story of the newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.

There are two shows open to the public – Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29, both at 6 p.m. The young actors will kick off the shows with an invited guest dress rehearsal at 4:45 p.m. on March 27.

It’s a large cast featuring the youngest actors in a ‘Newsies ensemble’.
And for a little extra fun, the show will have a guest star: Mr. James Gillick, the school’s beloved security officer.

The Creative Team behind the young actors consists of Mara Davi Gaines, Aaron Gaines, Sydnee Ferretti, Emily Malings, Lori Beth Paliotta and Susan Ryan.
