When longtime Highland Falls Mayor Joe D’Onofrio decided several weeks ago to step out of the race – to retire from the position of mayor – his current deputy mayor, Jim DiSalvo, assumed his position on the ballot to run for mayor in the upcoming village election.
The mayor’s seat and two trustee seats are up for grabs. All are four-year terms.
DiSalvo is running on the Highland Falls First line, with incumbent Trustee Peter Carroll and village resident Jennifer Gargiulo running for the two trustee seats.
Also running for mayor, on the We The People team, is former mayor Pat Flynn, with residents Aleena Olivia and Sallie Dorsch running for the two trustee seats.
There is also a third choice for mayor, Carol Spisso, running alone on the Working for You line.
The election will take place on Tuesday, March 18. Voting is for registered Highland Falls residents only and takes place from noon to 9 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 15 Drew Ave., Highland Falls.
