Use of public funds explained

The Newburgh City Council held a public hearing for Fiscal Year 2022 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER). The hearing took place at City Hall on Monday, February 27.

City of Newburgh Planning and Development Director Alexandra Church led the public hearing which provided a breakdown of funds used over the course of 2022. The public report provided a breakdown of allocated funding and COVID funding that was used for projects throughout the course of the prior year.

$215,637.78 was spent for Rem Property funds which secured properties returned to the city; $18,531 for homeowner assistance that included water line replacement; $365,291.47 for park improvements which included the splash pads and the process of the aquatic center at Delano-Hitch Park; $226,926.36 for complete street funds which include ADA curb ramp work; $10,845.56 for neighborhood services such as summer camp activities; $29,312.89 was spent for Neighborhood services focusing on the Summer Film Festival; $14,199.39 was spent for workforce development; $178,372.77 was spent for administrative purposes. CDBG CV funds, which were additional funds received during the pandemic, was $11,888.57 for food security, $23,588.03 for infrastructure, $145,601.50 used for Emergency Income Payments or rent, $46,588.27 spent for COVID outreach and $1,390.83 spent for administrative funds.

The only comment brought forward about the report was by NAACP President Ray Harvey who was not satisfied with the presentation of the information to the community who may not have even known about this work or have access to the information online.
