Hello New Windsor. With three younger children in the house, my wife and I are always looking for different fun things to do as a family to keep the kids busy. Recently we took the kids Goat Walking. You might ask what the heck is goat walking? But it is just as it sounds. We went to the Clover Brooke Farm in Hyde Park NY where they offer a whole range of fun family activities including one where the participant can walk a goat on a leash for a two mile walk around their beautiful farm.

It truly was so much fun and really relaxing, plus good exercise. The goats were so friendly and the scenery at the farm was absolutely beautiful. Our twins even had goats that were also twins.

Besides Goat Walking the farm also offers a host of other activities such as Llama and Alpaca Hikes, Bunnypalooza where you can just hang out with a bunch of bunnies, and Farm Yoga. It was a lot of fun and we highly recommend it if you are looking for a family outing.

New Windsor Town Supervisor George Meyers recently announced that New Windsor waives property tax exemption renewal requirement for Senior Citizens and Disabled Individuals. On January 5, 2022, the New Windsor Town Board passed a resolution waiving the renewal application requirement for Low Income Senior Citizens and Individuals with Disabilities with Limited Income. This option was allowed by a recently issued Executive Order by Governor Hochul.

The goal is to protect these people from having to file the applications with the Assessor’s Office due to Covid. For the next tax cycle. these individuals will receive the same exemption at the same percentages that they received last year without having to file the renewal applications. This same Resolution was also passed last year.

In other news the Veterans Property Tax Exemption in New York State has moved back the commencement date for the Vietnam War. The State of New York recently amended the commencement date of the Vietnam War from February 28, 1961, to November 1, 1955. Certain veterans may now qualify for a greater exemption. Veterans that had been receiving a Cold War exemption may now qualify for having served during a period of war. The Town of New Windsor Assessor’s Office will be sending a letter to those property owners that are currently receiving a Cold War Veterans exemption to inform them they may benefit from this change and should look into filing for the Alternative Veterans exemption. The next exemption filing deadline is March 1, 2022.

On December 18, 2021, members of the Kiwanis Club of Newburgh, NFA Key Club, and Cornwall High School Key Club spent the day ringing the bells for the Salvation Army of Newburgh at Walmart. Despite the cold and rainy weather, the Club managed to bring a lot of holiday cheer with Christmas caroling and thanking all who donated to the worthy cause.
