Sylvia Decker, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, September 9, 2021. She was 100.

Daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Ortale) Frangello, she was born at home on July 15, 1921 in Newburgh, NY.  She married Clayton V. Decker at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh on July 4, 1941.

“Sis” or “Aunt Sis” as she was known to friends and family was a retired seamstress for Vince DiGatti, Newburgh. A lifelong area resident, in her younger years she was the co-owner/operator of Deck’s Luncheonette in Newburgh. She was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.  She loved to read, work on crossword puzzles and was also an avid bingo player. Sylvia and her late husband retired to Boca Raton, FL where she worked as a toll collector for the Florida Turnpike Authority. While in Florida she was a member of the Italian American Club.

Her true joy was with her family.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt who loved helping her family,  and was a part of so many wonderful celebrations over her many years.  She also enjoyed sharing her fond memories of growing up in Newburgh with family and friends.  This past July her family was blessed with being able to spend her 100th birthday with her where she had fun playing with her great-great-grandchildren.

The family is especially thankful for the kind and gentle attention she received from the caregivers of Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill, NY.

In addition to her beloved husband Clayton, she is predeceased by her brothers; Arthur, Thomas, Eugene, Albert, and Louis Frangello and two sisters; Julia Frangello and Laura Delmarco.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon A. (Jon) Telesmanick of the Town of Newburgh; two grandchildren, Kathy (Jeffrey Wurster) Kimball-Wurster of the Town of Newburgh and Rachel (Charles Moss) Telesmanick of Portland, Oregon; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Versace, Devin (Raysten) Klaber, and Laura Wurster; two great-great-grandchildren, Vivianna and Natalie Klaber; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh.

Burial will follow in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Syliva’s name can be made to the Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry, 319 Broadway, Newburgh.

Arrangements are under the care of White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service.
