On Sunday, January 2, community members gathered outside of the Newburgh Heritage Center at 123 Grand Street for the Inauguration ceremony of Orange County Legislator Kevindaryán Luján. The ceremony began with the changing of the colors with the ROTC and the national anthem was sung by Christine Shoshannah, a local Newburgh artist. Speakers included former Ward 2 City of Newburgh Councilwoman Genie Abrahams who conducted the opening prayer, and City of Newburgh Historian Mary McTamaney’s discussion on the historical significance of the Old Court house. Also, amongst the speakers, was community activist Steven Majano, Mayor Torrance Harvey and Monica Luján. The oath of office was administered by City of Newburgh Court Judge Joanne Matthews Forbes.
