The Newburgh Board of Education has appointed Stephen R. Sager Jr. as director of school safety and security, effective April 7. The board approved his probationary appointment at its March 11 meeting, setting his annual salary at $170,000. Sager was also named the district’s chief emergency officer, with his salary funded through the district’s general fund.

Sager replaces Anthony Geraci, who resigned earlier this month after serving less than a year. Geraci was appointed last spring, replacing Matthew Tindall in a 6-3 board vote. His tenure began under Superintendent Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell, who is currently suspended. Acting Superintendent Dr. Lisa Buon is overseeing district operations during Campbell’s suspension.
