Safe Haven changes plans

Safe Haven Self Storage, the former Orange County Chopper building, will now only provide interior self storage whereas initially proposed, the facility would feature both indoor and outdoor storage. The Town of Newburgh Planning issued conditional approval for the project with regards to landscaping and building maintenance and to only show the first phase of their project.

The project had appeared before the board in the Fall of 2022 and received initial site plan approval for the project. On Thursday, April 20, the project, represented by the firm Engineering and Surveying Properties, appeared again before the board for an amended site plan with additional phasing plan. The first phase would consist of the continued renovations and redevelopment of the current building and phase two would address exterior work.

Additional reasons for the change in the plans for the project have also been attributed to the change in storage market whereas outdoor storage has not seen a significant demand. MBH Development Group, represented by Bernard Mittelman, had already purchased the property back in 2016. The building is located at Crossroads Court along Route 17K.
