Resorts World Hudson Valley looks to open its doors in the Summer of 2022, at the Newburgh Mall.

The Resorts World Casino organization currently operates out of two locations: the Catskills and New York City.

Meghan Taylor, vice president of Government Affairs and Public Relations for Genting Americas Inc, which operates the Resorts World Casinos, said the plan is going forward in collaboration with the Town of Newburgh. Taylor said that for the Catskills location, the site attracts residents from Orange County, as far south as Westchester County, and as far north as Columbia and Greene Counties. Other residents from Dutchess County, as well, also come to the Catskills location.

For this specific project, Taylor discussed the timeline for the mall going forward.

Beginning with the sidewalks along Rt 300, the sidewalks would extend from the Mavis Discount Tire property, through the first opening of the mall. The entrance leads into the former BonTon store that operated in the space. This project will not take place until operations officially open.

According to Taylor, for the remainder of this year and leading into the following year, Resorts World is working with the town to acquire permits for demolition and building to begin construction. Construction will look to begin within the next month or two, that being October into November.

Taylor said that this project will be looking to employ an estimated 200 to 225 people, with local residents given first priority.

“We’re going to be working with the local career development centers at the various colleges and universities throughout the Hudson Valley,” Taylor said. “We’re going to be embarking upon looking to hire local first.”

According to Taylor, the town and Resorts World entered into a community benefit agreement. With this agreement, Resorts World will be paying the town $3,000,000 annually during the course of their stay. These funds will be put to use by the town how they see fit.

Taylor said two programs that will be utilized in Newburgh are the Resorts World Community Partners program and Resorts World Gives. The Community Partners program is a collaborative effort with local businesses where patrons with membership cards will be able to receive discounts or other promotions at various vendor locations, thus creating exposure for the businesses. The other program is the company’s corporate philanthropic program that provides funding for various 501c3 organizations.

The community support comes from various public hearings and open lines of communication from both sides, which continues to push forward the collaborative effort.
