Paula C. Otto (Mitzi), 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Mebane Ridge Assisted Living in Mebane, NC.
She was born in Highland, NY on November 7, 1930 to the late Chester T. and Pauline Schaffer Coutant and was the wife of the late Robert M. Otto.
Mitzi graduated from the St. Luke’s Hospital Nurses School, Newburgh, in 1950 and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for 10 years as a registered nurse. She also worked as a substitute nurse in the Newburgh Enlarged School District for many years. She actively served her community in various civic organizations and served on many boards & committees. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Nurses Alumni and the Quassaick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newburgh.
She is survived by her sons, Robert P. Otto, David T. Otto (Susan); daughter, Paula O. Zanker (Alan); grandchildren, Cheryl Otto (Eric Anderson), Leah, Misty and Daniel Otto; 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; brother, Raymond B. Coutant and sister, Mary Lou Langedyke (Bruce). She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Thomas C. Coutant, and daughter in law Theresa Otto.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mebane Ridge Assisted Living, Peak Resources of Alamance and AuthoraCare Hospice of Alamance County for the hard work and care that Mom received while she was in NC.
