Newburgh to begin hydrant flushing

Posted

The City of Newburgh Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the City beginning on Monday, April 10, and continuing through to completion. This process will take two to three weeks to finish.

Hydrant flushing is done to ensure that hydrants are in working order for fire protection and to remove mineral deposits that accumulate in the water distribution system.

In order for the Water Department to complete this work in a safe and orderly fashion, City residents are requested to:

  • Use caution when approaching flushing operations.
  • Refrain from doing laundry when Water Department operators are in the area.
  • Limit household water use, as well as outside watering and irrigation when Water Department operators are in the area.

Customers may notice a water discoloration or a change in water pressure for a short period of time. Please check water before use. We appreciate resident’s cooperation and patience during this procedure.

Please contact the City of Newburgh Water Department at 565-3356 during regular business hours or 845-561-6080 after hours if you have additional questions or require additional information.
