A New Windsor man was arrested on felony drug charges following a multi-agency investigation into narcotics distribution, police said.
On March 13, the Town of New Windsor Police Department, in coordination with the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, New York State Police, City of Newburgh Police, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, executed a search warrant at a residence on Stonecrest Drive.
During the search, police seized 400 grams of powdered cocaine, three AR-15-style assault rifles, multiple magazines, assorted ammunition, scales, and $3,900 in cash. The department’s K-9 Unit assisted in locating the drugs and firearms.
Lazurus Rodriguez, 30, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-1 felony. He was held pending arraignment.
New Windsor Police Chief Daniel Valeri credited the operation’s success to the collaboration between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
"This operation demonstrates the continued dedication and collaboration of our local, state, and federal partners in combating the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety of our community," Valerisaid. "Thanks to the hard work of our officers, including the invaluable assistance of our K-9 Unit, we have successfully disrupted a significant narcotics operation. The arrest of Mr. Rodriguez and the seizure of firearms and drugs are a testament to our commitment to keeping New Windsor safe. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and hold those who break the law accountable."
Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti praised officers for their vigilance in keeping the community safe.
“Thank you once again to the New Windsor Police Department, the K-9 Unit and their law enforcement partners for keeping New Windsor safe.,” the supervisor added. “Their hard work successfully disrupted this narcotics operation. Our residents should rest a bit easier knowing how vigilant our officers are in keeping our town a safe place to live and work“
