The New Windsor Town Board has approved a confidential settlement in the case of Tarsio v. Town of New Windsor et al, with no financial details disclosed. The board voted unanimously on the settlement Wednesday, with no further comment from board members.
The case, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, involves harassment allegations against New Windsor Town Justice George Meyers Jr., who was suspended in September by the Office of Court Administration. Plaintiff Patricia Tarsio, a longtime court clerk, alleged that Meyers made inappropriate comments about her appearance and invited her to meet after work hours, behavior she claims created a hostile work environment and led to retaliation when she filed complaints.
According to court documents available from a March 6 meeting, Tarsio described a pattern of alleged harassment dating back to 2021, including incidents at a holiday party in January 2023, where Meyers allegedly made suggestive comments. After Tarsio reported these concerns to the town and judicial conduct authorities, she claims her work conditions worsened as Meyers limited her responsibilities.
The complaint lists four counts against Meyers and the Town of New Windsor: sexual harassment and hostile work environment claims, as well as unlawful retaliation.
Meyers is represented by attorneys Richard Epstein and Michael Miranda of Miranda Slone Sklarin Verveniotis LLP, while the town’s legal counsel is Annemarie Jones of Sokoloff Stern LLP. Tarsio is represented by attorney Jonathan Goldman of Sussman and Goldman.
In an email, Goldman confirmed the settlement but declined to disclose further details, stating, “We are not at liberty to disclose the amount of the settlement, but we can confirm that Ms. Tarsio and the Town have been able to reach a resolution of the litigation.”
New Windsor Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti and Town Attorney David Zagon declined to comment on the agreement. A Freedom of Information Law request submitted by the Mid Hudson Times for settlement specifics was also denied due to the settlement’s confidential status.
Meyers’ court cases are currently being handled by fellow Town Justice Noreen Calderin and Town of Newburgh Justice Richard Clarino. The settlement agreement is expected to conclude the litigation, with no further statements anticipated from the involved parties.
