Library accepting applications for a new Poet Laureate for City of Newburgh

The search is on to appoint a new Poet Laureate for the city of Newburgh. Set to serve a two-year term, beginning in 2023, the new Poet Laureate will be responsible for promoting and emphasizing the importance of poetry in our community. Coordinating this effort is librarian Patty Sussman at the Newburgh Free Library.

Former Poet Laureate, Mona Toscano will serve as honorary chair on the selection committee to help decide her successor. Other members of the selection committee include Mayor (and poet) Torrence Harvey; Angela Shapiro, board member of Arts Mid-Hudson; and Tony Slade, commissioner of the Newburgh Arts and Cultural Commission (NACC).

The selection committee will begin receiving applications November 15 and will accept applications until December 16 Applicants must reside within the City of Newburgh and applications can be found on the Newburgh Free Library website at: rebrand.ly/poetlaureate.
