Giants day at San Miguel Academy

Posted

New York Giants receiver Collin Johnson and linebacker Carter Coughlin spent the afternoon at San Miguel Academy on Wednesday, along with team owners Sheila and Ann Mara and members of the Giants organization.

After joining in for a weekly sing-a-long, Collin and Carter talked candidly with the students about their faith and its importance in guiding their lives.

The visitors took a tour of the school, saw demonstrations in the newly dedicated Sister Agnes Boyle O.P. STEAM Learning Center, and wrapped up their visit with–what else–some football throwing and a bit of competition! San Miguel Academy was honored to have Police Commissioner José Gomérez and members of the Newburgh Police Department present for the event.

The late Ann T. Mara, ‘the first lady of football’, was a wonderful friend to San Miguel Program and her presence is felt throughout the school.  Her daughter, Ann Mara Cacase, devotes time to the Program as a member of the Board of Trustees. San Miguel Program is grateful for the continued support of the Mara family and proud to be honorary members of the Giants organization.

Collin and Carter were presented with special ornaments made in the STEAM Center by 8th graders Gianna and Janelli. Students were thrilled to receive official NY Giants hats, with Eli Manning’s memorable words on the back: “Once a Giant, always a Giant.”
