How interesting are a couple of recent letters to the editor.  The authoritarian blames the socialists.  The libertarian blames the strong concerned leaders.  Maybe the fascists are blaming the communists.  And the communists are blaming the fascists.  And so on.

I’m talking about the taking of vaccines and the wearing of masks.  It’s one huge political mess. Someone pulls a position out of their nether regions like the Covid-19 thing is a big hoax and the non-thinking followers  – would you believe millions of them – blindly follow them into great danger.  I have to admit:   I am convinced addressing this whole Covid thing is a medical issue, not a political one.  Would you believe somebody said to my face that he doesn’t trust science but does trust the opinion of a certain individual?

Let’s look at science for a moment.  It’s not a “thing,” it’s a process, a process of laboriously testing ideas with constant trials until something can be reasonably accepted as correct – and even then tested, tested, tested.  It is an attempt to take personal opinion out of the mix.  But now for so many personal opinion of certain individuals is all that matters.  It is said it is all a matter of personal choice.

But choices have consequences.  If one takes the vaccine and wears a mask that person is less likely to be hospitalized or die of the disease.  Even more important that person is much less likely to infect others, particularly in their own family.  It is a fact: 90-99% of hospitalizations and deaths at this point are of the unvaccinated.  Those who choose not to do the right thing are a great danger to themselves and others.  You don’t believe me?  It was recently revealed that 6 commentators who refused to get vaccinated and proclaimed that no one should get vaccinated themselves died of the disease.  Many government officials are at their wits end how to help people do the right thing.  Many baulk at “mandates.”  Do they also expose themselves to possible death or killing others by running through “mandated” stop lights?  Think of that for a moment.  I didn’t get vaccinated plus booster or wear a mask because of political pressure.  I did and do these things because they are proven methods for decreasing my infection and not exposing others to a possible infection if, indeed, I catch the disease.  So forget all the political crap (sorry about that!) and do the right thing.
