The Newburgh City Council approved to set a public hearing for the redevelopment of 140 and 146 Montgomery St. and 137 Smith St. which will be conducted by Kearney Realty & Development Group.

The public hearing was scheduled for September 12 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Back in March, Liberty Street Partners and Kearney Realty & Development Group came forward and presented to the council separate proposals for mixed use, mixed income housing on these city properties. The three city properties currently rest on designated Urban Renewal land.

Prior to the vote, Councilman Omari Shakur encouraged community members to come out and attend the meeting to comment and speak about the project when it comes before the council again.
Kearney Realty & Development Group had proposed a project with central greenway, permanent on-site property manager, free WiFi access, 100 affordable housing units, and retail spaces for the development.

Kearney Group had also been approved for their development project known as the East End Lofts which would be built along Colden St. However, no movement on that project has begun yet.
