City of Newburgh seeks to hire comptroller

The City of Newburgh is seeking to hire a comptroller and has posted the position on its job board.

When asked about the previous comptroller, the city declined to comment on personnel matters, according to the press office. City Manager Todd Venning serves as the city’s director of finance and chief fiscal officer.

The position has a salary range of $165,839 to $182,700 and is a full-time exempt-class appointment available immediately. The comptroller serves as the city’s chief financial officer, reports directly to the city manager, and is responsible for overseeing the city’s financial affairs, including city funds, enterprise activities, and grant programs. The comptroller also represents the administration on fiscal matters before the City Council.

The job description, including qualifications and required skills, is available on the city’s website. Minimum qualifications include:

• A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and at least one year of experience in municipal or public sector finance.

• A master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, economics, or a related field, with two years of municipal or public sector finance experience in a supervisory capacity.

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of municipal or public sector finance experience in a supervisory role.

The applicant must also qualify for bonding by an insurance company and establish residency within the city within 90 days of appointment.
