City of Newburgh seeks to fill Board vacancies

Vacancies currently exist on several City Boards. They include the Police Community Relations and Review Board, Architectural Review Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Electrical Examiners Board, Board of Ethics and the Citizens Advisory Committee.

The Police Community Relations and Review Board (PCRRB) has two (2) vacant positions. A position for Ward 4 member and At-Large member are immediately available. The PCRRB is an independent, nonexclusive body which reviews complaints of misconduct by members of the City of Newburgh Police Department. The goals of the Board and Chapter 72 of the City Code are to improve communication between the City of Newburgh Police Department and the community, increase police accountability and credibility with the public and to create a fair and impartial complaint process. The Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7p.m.

The Architectural Review Commission (ARC) has two alternate positions vacant. The ARC exercises aesthetic judgment to maintain the character of historic and architectural design districts, or a landmark, and to prevent construction, reconstruction, alteration or demolition which would be out of harmony with the architectural aesthetics, style, materials, colors, line and details of the district and/or landmark. The Commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

The Planning Board has two alternate member vacancies. The Planning Board has full power and authority to make investigations, maps, reports and recommendations relating to the planning and development of the City as may be advisable or which the Council may direct. The Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has two alternate positions vacant. The ZBA enforces the zoning laws of the City of Newburgh and hears applications for variances to those laws. The Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Board of Electrical Examiners has one vacancy to fill. The Board of Electrical Examiners is charged with responsibilities related to licensure, qualifications and fitness of electricians who do business in the City of Newburgh. Interested parties must hold a valid electrician’s license issued by the City of Newburgh and be in good standing. The board meets once a month at a date and time convenient to all board members.

The Board of Ethics has one vacancy to fill. The Board of Ethics renders opinions to officers and employees of the City of Newburgh pursuant to the written request of any member of the general public, any officer or employee of the City of Newburgh, or any member of the Board of Ethics.

The Citizens Advisory Committee has seven vacancies to fill. The Citizens Advisory Committee develops a pool of individuals interested and qualified to serve on the City of Newburgh’s next districting commission to evaluate the existing wards and redistrict them as necessary so that they remain compact/contiguous and in compliance with State and Federal law.
