Orange County NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF LOCAL LAW

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the County Legislature of the County of Orange on the 3rd day of October, 2024, passed Local Law Introductory No. 4 of 2024, entitled, “A LOCAL LAW TO AMEND AND EXTEND THE EXPIRATION DATE OF LOCAL LAW NO. 1 OF 2020 REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM IMPOSING OWNER LIABILITY FOR FAILURE OF AN OPERATOR TO STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS DISPLAYING A RED VISUAL SIGNAL AND STOP ARM;” that the County Executive of Orange County approved such local law on October 30, 2024, said date of October 30, 2024 being the date of adoption thereof. The following is a summary of said Local Law Introductory No. 4 of 2024: Local Law Introductory No. 4 of 2024 is a local law which amends and extends Local Law No. 1 of 2020 which established a “demonstration program” imposing owner liability for the failure of an operator to stop for a school bus displaying a red visual signal and stop arm. The Local Law extends the expiration date of the demonstration program to December 1, 2029.This Local Law shall take effect as provided in New York Municipal Home Rule Law.
