The West Point Band has announced its 2025 Winter Concert Series. They’ll perform across the Hudon Valley and throughout the Northeast from January to April.
Audiences can look forward to a diverse selection of music, ranging from traditional band repertoire and Sousa marches to patriotic tunes and beyond. All performances are free and open to all. Visit westpointband.com for the latest information, or follow the band on Facebook, Instagram and X.
With three performances in February, the West Point Band’s concert “Dance With Me” is an evening of music inspired by the rhythms of dance. The concert features classics like James Reese Europe’s lively “Castle House Rag” and Rachmaninoff’s sweeping “Symphonic Dance No. 1,” alongside “Hip Knot,” an original composition by the band’s Deputy Commander, Capt. Philip Tappan. Staff Sgt. Francisco Aisporna brings vocal charm to Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” and “Sinatra in Love,” while Staff Sgt. Patrick Sikes shines in Oscar Navarro’s “Concerto for Clarinet.”
In March, join the West Point Band for “West Point on the March,” an exploration of the most classic American military musical genre: the march, featuring some of Sousa’s best-known works alongside lively selections like “Americans We” and Ethel Smyth’s anthem of women’s suffrage, “March of the Women.” The West Point Brass Quintet will showcase the powerful music of a New Orleans funeral, followed by stirring pieces inspired by the 1963 March on Washington, including Bob Dylan’s “When the Ship Comes In” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.” The concert wraps up with the unforgettable movie marches from “Indiana Jones” and “The Music Man.”
“American Tapestry” celebrates the composers who have called America home, whether by birth or choice, blending cultural influences to create something uniquely and beautifully American. This program highlights the rich diversity of our musical landscape, featuring Leonard Bernstein’s inspiring “Make Our Garden Grow,” Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy,” and Chen Yi’s vibrant “Dragon Rhyme.” Dana Wilson’s “The Avatar” highlights the bassoon’s depth and versatility, performed by featured soloist Sgt. 1st Class Briana Hoffman, while Morton Gould’s playful “Yankee Doodle” adds a touch of Americana. Join us for an evening of music that honors the artistry, unity, and cultural richness that define America.
