Water progress in Fort Montgomery

Early last week the foundation was put in place for what will soon be Fort Montgomery’s new 195,000 water storage tank. The tank is located on property within the Corbin Hill housing development, next to where a smaller tank that serves those homes is located. The $1.1 million project was paid for primarily ($800,000) with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds awarded by the federal government in 2021 which must be used by the end of 2025. The remainder of the project, about $311,000, will be paid for by those in Water Districts 1 and 2. Currently, the town is allowed the use of 150,000 gallons of water per day (the town’s water is purchased from the Village of Highland Falls) in Fort Montgomery. After some related contingencies are completed, like upgraded chlorination, and the new tank is up and running, the town can use up to 200,000 gallons per day. There are also some contingencies in place regarding treatment capacity at the Highland Falls Water Plant. The project is expected to be completed by this coming summer.
