Those planning to run for the Board of Education in either Cornwall or Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery can now begin that process. There are specific eligibility requirements set by both school districts; see the websites for that information.

The board elections are on Tuesday, May 20, the same day as the budget vote.

Board of Education candidate petition packets can be obtained from District Clerk Dawn Storms, in her office at O’Neill High School, 21 Morgan Road, Highland Falls. (Be advised that the office hours April 14-17, Spring Recess, will be from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and the office will be closed on Friday, April 18 in observance of Good Friday.) Candidates must submit a nominating petition to the school district clerk. The petition must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters and be returned no later than 5 p.m., April 21.

There are two seats opening this year, currently held by Board President Anne Lawless and Board Member Gus Koutsourades.

A petition to print and use to collect signatures is available on the district website. Thirty-one signatures are required to be placed on the ballot.
The deadline for petition submission is 5 p.m. on April 21; petitions must be delivered to District Clerk John Fink at the district office, 24 Idlewild Avenue, Cornwall-on-Hudson. District Administrative Offices are open Monday through Friday when school is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Be advised that the office hours April 14-17, Spring Recess, will be from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and the office will be closed on Friday, April 18 in observance of Good Friday.)

There are three seats opening this year, currently held by Board Members Brendan Carty, Bass Shakra and Richard Schaffner.
