Garrison Art Center (GAC) is pleased present ‘Home Is Where the Heart Is,’ a three-person exhibition of work by Amy Cheng (NYC), Erik Schoonebeek (New Haven, Conn.), and Zac Skinner (Beacon). This exhibition will run from February 8 - March 9. A public reception with the three artists will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 5 – 7 p.m. An artist talk will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 3 - 4 p.m.
The exhibition ‘Home Is Where the Heart Is’ examines the concept of home through three distinct perspectives: close-up, medium-range, and long-range. The “close-up” view explores the emotional complexity of physical homes, reflecting on themes of shelter, comfort, alienation, and the dual nature of walls as both protective and divisive. The “medium-range” focus shifts to Earth as a shared home in crisis, addressing issues of pollution, resource depletion, and climate change. The “long-range” perspective delves into the vast mysteries of the universe, using artistic imagination to visualize the unknown and humanity’s place within an expansive cosmos.
Through intuitive and emotional engagement, the exhibition encourages reflection on the interconnectedness of these “homes” and the delicate balance that sustains life. By presenting a diverse range of artworks, it challenges complacency and invites a broader understanding of home—from personal spaces to the planet and the universe—emphasizing the urgency of rethinking humanity’s relationship with the world.
