“We were not expecting this, and it is very kind.”
Those were the words of Highland Falls Fort Montgomery Central School District Superintendent Michael McElduff recently as he showed off a $10,000 check at the Board of Education meeting. He’d received the check at the December 6 Army-Tulane football game, the championship game of the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
“On Friday evening, during the West Point football game, I had the honor of accepting a generous donation on behalf of the district from the Atlantic Athletic Conference,” McElduff said at the meeting. “Mr. Tim Pernetti, who is the commissioner of the AAC, and was on hand for the game, presented the check. These funds will be utilized to further support our faculty, staff, and students.”
He brought the check to the BOE meeting and asked several teachers and students to pose with it – “because that’s who this will benefit,” he said.
The AAC makes the annual donation to the public school system in the community where the game is held, in this case both the HF-FMCSD and West Point’s DODEA schools were each given $10,000.
“It was absolutely wonderful to be part of this,” McElduff said. “It is awesome for our students.”
He didn’t say what the funds will be used for.
Board of Education President Anne Lawless was also grateful. “I personally want to thank the AAC for their very generous donation to our students and teachers,” she said.
