The GRIT Gallery in Newburgh and Studio 502 in Beacon are set to present “River Reflections,” a special dual-location exhibition showcasing the expressionist works of renowned artist Maria Lago. Opening on Saturday, October 26, the exhibition will celebrate the creative connection between Newburgh and Beacon through Lago’s evocative paintings and sculptures.
Lago, born in Asturias, Spain, has spent over four decades honing her craft. Her abstract expressionist works are known for their rich layering of materials such as burlap, clay, oil, acrylic, cement, and plaster, reflecting her deeply symbolic approach to art. By repurposing old canvases and blending primal symbols with modern techniques, Lago explores the duality of human experience and the passage of time.
The exhibition runs through January 12, 2025, with an opening reception on October 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. at GRIT Gallery, 115 Broadway, Newburgh. Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
