Rev. Geary officially installed at Cornwall Presbyterian

Posted

Following a year-long search and with permission from the Hudson River Presbytery, Rev. Jeffrey Geary was officially installed as pastor of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church on Sunday after serving in an interim capacity for over two years.

Geary attended Millikin University where he majored in religion and sociology and minored in philosophy and psychology. He graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary and served as associate pastor at Setauket Presbyterian Church for 16 years. He then made the transition to White Plains Presbyterian Church, where he worked 12 years as senior pastor before agreeing to serve, in the summer of 2022, as the interim pastor of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church.

During the 90-minute ceremony, Geary was asked a number of constitutional questions to ensure his trust in Jesus Christ as his savior and to accept the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Geary affirmed his commitment to abide by the church’s discipline and to further the peace, unity, and purity of the church. He promised to be a friend among his colleagues in ministry and to pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love.

In kind, the members of the congregation were asked if they would accept Geary as their pastor, agree to encourage him, respect his decisions, and follow as they guide him. The congregation agreed to stand by him in trouble and share his joy, listen to the words he preaches, welcome his pastoral care, and honor his authority.

“There is one fact that is true and it never changes,” Geary said to close the ceremony. “God has loved you. She loves you still and she will love you always. Go from this place in peace to love and serve God in whatever form you do that.”
