Increased security at West Point

Posted

Effective immediately, West Point requires all visitors and attendees of athletic events – or visits to West Point for any other reason -- 18 years or older to have appropriate ID, either a DoD ID or West Point Visitor Control Center (VCC) visitor pass.

The measure appears to have taken place at all military installations in the U.S., “due to enhanced security measures being implemented”.

West Point visitors that do not have a DOD ID card or a West Point Local Area Credential card must obtain a Visitor’s Pass at the VCC, which is located in the same building as the Visitor’s Center, just outside Thayer Gate.

Everyone 18 or older in any vehicle entering post must have their own DOD ID or visitor pass.

In another West Point related matter this week, in observance of the National Day of Mourning, as proclaimed by President Biden to honor the late President Jimmy Carter, all West Point DoDEA Schools and Child and Youth Services (CYS) will be closed on Thursday, July 9. As well, the West Point Visitors Center and West Point Museum will be closed, but the VCC will open as normal, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Federal employees are excused from duty for the day, with the exception of those required to report for national security, defense, or other essential public duties.
