The Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery Central School District recently learned about a water leak affecting James I. O’Neill High School.
“The village recently brought this matter to our attention, and the district immediately began investigating the issue,” Superintendent Michael McElduff said in a letter to the community on January 12. “While we have successfully identified the general location of the leak, its complexity requires a long-term solution that cannot be implemented immediately. To address this, we have engaged our architectural firm to develop a permanent and effective plan.”
He said that the district has taken “proactive measures” while the work is being done.
“Over the weekend, we engaged TAM Enterprises to install a temporary water supply and pressure pump system to ensure the high school remains fully operational. This system provides potable water, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff can safely continue to use all facilities, including restrooms and heating systems,” he said on Sunday, noting classes would resume as scheduled while they work toward a permanent solution.
However, at about 11 a.m. Monday it was announced that school was closing for the remainder of the day while a water tank is replaced.
