The Cornwall Dragons cruised to a 34-15 victory over Goshen on Friday night at Cornwall Middle School.
Justin Tolbert opened the scoring for Cornwall with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, putting the Dragons up 7-0. Quinn Pikarsky then connected with Nicholas Schewtschenko on a 22-yard touchdown pass, followed by a 9-yard TD pass to Matt Cerone, giving Cornwall a commanding 21-0 lead.

Jordan Bishop led the rushing attack with 25 carries for 172 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry, and added two touchdowns. Matt Cerone caught six passes for 88 yards, averaging 14.7 yards per reception, with one touchdown.

Defensively Dylan Marrero had 6 total tackles and 2 TFL’s. Jaziah Maisonet had 7 total tackles and 1.5 TFL’s. Braden Murphy led the team in tackles with 8 total.

The Dragons improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. They will host Middletown on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Bears (1-3) are coming off a 44-21 win over Kingston last week.

The game started off with a playing of a recording of the National Anthem as sung by former Cornwall Local editor Ken Cashman.

During halftime, the 30th anniversary of Cornwall Youth Football was recognize with coaches/Board of Directors members/staff invited onto the field.

“We were able to celebrate 30 years of Cornwall Youth Football this game and it was incredible to see former players and coaches at the game,” said Coach Kevin Arduino. “My brother and father were both a part of the first season back in 1994. Although we were in the locker room at halftime, I was able to see several of my former coaches from when I played in the youth program! Some of the guys I have not seen in 15 years. The youth program is the backbone to the success here at Cornwall and it is because of the people that are involved. The dedication to it is amazing and a big reason for the success of the high school program.”
