Back on August 21, 45 pints of blood were donated at the Cornwall Public Library.
That means that 135 lives were potentially saved, New York Blood Center officials told the library’s Brenda Goldfarb, who coordinated the drive.
“Please shower accolades on the Cornwall community for their participation in this drive – our Great Give Back event this year,” Goldfarb said this week.
There were 44 registered donors on the day of the drive. Three people were deferred, 37 whole blood donations were collected, and there were four “doubles” (Alyx, which equals eight donations) for a grand total of 45 life-saving pints collected!
“This is our biggest turnout yet,” Goldfarb added. “Past drives have collected 36, and 40 pints respectively. Blood donation is the act of giving life. As you already know by having done it, your one hour spent in donating blood is going to give life to someone in need. Your blood could save anyone from a baby to an older individual. One cannot manufacture blood; it is a gift we all have inside of us to give to those who are in need. There’s no doubt that the need is huge. However, the support of donors like you is helping to make it possible to help the people in need to achieve a healthier, happier and fruitful life.”
