A ‘citizen preparedness’ chat

The Town of Highlands Citizens Environmental Committee, in cooperation with the Town Disaster Preparedness Committee, will present the next citizen preparedness talk on how thoughtful landscaping can play a role in minimizing property damage during a storm.

Dean Jaeger, Fort Montgomery resident that you may know as the force behind the annual July 4th Firecracker 5K, will present ideas and strategies for modifying the landscapes around our properties to reduce damage from floods, high winds and other problems that mother nature may have in store. He will talk about planting certain vegetation, managing water flow and terrain, and other nature-based solutions.

Jaeger, a former Town of Highlands Councilman, is the Building and Grounds manager at Vassar College with over 44 years’ experience in the “green” business. He has worked on tree and shrub farms, in property maintenance companies, hard good distributors, pest management, landscape design/install etc. ... just about anything that has to do with the landscape/green industry.

Bring your questions and concerns and get some new perspectives to inspire your spring yard work. This presentation, which is the third in a series of citizen preparedness initiatives by the two committees, will take place on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. in the Highland Falls Library. There is no registration requirement but if anyone has any questions please contact Olga Anderson at 917-509-1200 or olga.anderson@gmail.com.
