Wallkill Little League cancels summer camp

The Wallkill Area Little League Board of Directors on Monday, June 22, announced it has canceled the league’s summer camp.

According to officials the league does not have access to the fields with the current reopening rules in place.
The camp was to be conducted by Frozen Ropes at the Wallkill Area Little League field and was scheduled to be from July 13-17, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The league had already announced the cancellation of its season on May 29, with the board announcing on Facebook that they would be unable to stay in compliance with the Little League International and CDC guidelines due to being a volunteer organization with no financial support from the towns or school district.
Guidance from Little League International asks for no handshakes or personal contact celebrations and leaving the field as soon as possible after the game.

Players should bring their own personal drinks to all activities and players should not share.
Managers, coaches and umpires should wear PPE, such as cloth face coverings when possible. Players should wear them when social distancing is not feasible. Players also will be allowed to wear face coverings in the field.

Registrations for 2020 were rolled over to the 2021 season and anyone who had a child aging out of the league is asked to email info@wallkillarealittleleague.org.

The league also will waive the increased registration fee for T-ball families that are moving up to Minor 1 in 2021 if they choose to roll over. Anyone who wants a refund is asked to email the league at info@wallkillarealittleleague.org.

In May, District 19, which governs area Little League announced a plan that could have district leagues begin practicing on July 6 with a season could begin on July 25 and stretch into fall.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on June 14 announced that low-risk sports, which include baseball and softball, could begin on July 6 in regions in Phase 3. The Mid-Hudson region entered Phase 3 on Tuesday, June 23 and is expected to enter Phase 4 on July 7.
