On November 30, the Walden Rotary Club welcomed Ginny Neidermier and Logan Heaney into the Club. Peter Sullivan conducted the induction service. This great organization’s motto is Service Above Self.

Annual tree lighting ceremony
Perfect weather was provided for the Annual tree lighting ceremony of the Christmas tree in Village Square on December 3. Everyone who attended joined in the activities provided for the holiday season. Highlights of the evening was Santa’s arrival to light the tree and to visit St. Andrew’s Hall to have a photo taken with Santa. Thanks to everyone involved in making this a very successful event.

Special thanks to Beth Balough and Heather Winum for creating the sleigh and reindeer used for the photo event.

Operation Dalmatian

In spite of Covid-19, the Walden Fire Department and area churches are proceeding with Operation Dalmatian - a program that gives gifts to children. To participate you must file a new application every year. Pick up an application form at the Walden Police Department, on line or call Pattie Williams at 845-764-5811. Your request must be received by Dec. 11.

Unlike previous years when gifts were delivered, this year they must be picked up at the Walden Firehouse, 230 Orange Avenue on Saturday, December 19 between 9 a.m. and noon.

Pearl Harbor Tribute
Joanne Keillor sends word that the Town of Crawford Historical Society is currently featuring a Pearl Harbor Tribute on the 2nd floor of Town Hall Government Center, Rt. 302, Pine Bush, 9 a.m.-4 pm. December 9, 10 and 11.

A collection of rare photos retrieved from a camera found in a food locker will be exhibited. Also from December 15th through January 6 on weekdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. a series of photos of stained glass windows from seven area churches will be on display in the same location.

Fire Department calls
Xander Macri, Junior FireFighter, sent me the following information reflecting calls made by the Walden Fire Department for the amonth of December:Automatic Fire Alarms - 4; Carbon Monoxide Alarms-4; MVA - 2; Vehicle Fire - 2; Medical Calls - 2; Gas Leak - 2. Birthday Wishes
Walden Rotary Club members send Happy Birthday wishes to fellow member Kevin Cannon who celebrated his birthday on December 8. Thank you, Kevin for all you do for this great organization.

Drive-Through Nativity

The Fox Hill Community, 80 Coleman Road sends Merry Christmas greetings and invites you to join them for a Drive-Through Nativity and Carol Sing-Along on Friday, December 11, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. As you leave, share a prayer or a wish and they will light a candle on a tree for youl In case of bad weather call 778-7561 for an update.

Home Decorating Contest
The Village of Walden will hold their annual Home Decorating Contest sponsored by the Community Council. To join in, you must reside in Walden. Pick up and drop off an entry form at the Josephine-Louise Public Library by December 16. Local business gift certificate prizes will be awarded for 1st place $100; 2nd place $75 and 3rd place $50. Judging will be based on creativity, originality and artistic endeavors! Winners will be notified by phone or in person by December 21, 2020.

Indoor yard sale

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Thursday, December 17, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Face masks are required. Great place to shop for the holidays. All proceeds benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. For information call the shelter at 778-5115. This is the season of giving. Please bring a donation of food or cleaning supplies. Thank you for your support.

WCC’s annual Fundraiser
There is still time to purchase a great holiday gift by participating in Walden Community Council’s annual Fundraiser - the 2021 Lottery Calendar! For a $20.00 donation you have a chance to win $25 daily/$40 on Sunday/$75 on Holidays. No drawing on Christmas Day. $100 - New Year’s Eve. Lottery cards are available at the Josephine-Louise Public Library or by calling Anita at 778-7772 or Jean at 778-1602. Hurry to get the number you want.

Some special birthdays during the month of December: Happy belated Birthday to library staff Liz Linton who celebrated on December 1. Library clerk Bridget Dudzik will celebrate on December 19, and Sonia Wesenberg, December 26.

Our crafty “Grab n’ Go” packets have been popular for the little ones. We have “Create your own Elf”, a Beaded Candy Cane craft and Holiday choices of a reindeer, a Hanukkah Star or a Christmas Tree. Make sure to call and let us know how many you need. We still have your Wooden Ornament crafts to hand out.
