Congratulations to Peter Sullivan, Walden Rotary Club member on being selected to serve as District Governor for 2013-2014. Peter currently serves as Assistant Governor for Region 6 of Rotary District 7210.Prior to this appointment, Peter served as President of the Walden Rotary Club.
Currently he serves as Treasurer of Walden Rotary Club; Treasurer and member of the Board of the Montgomery Food Pantry; Treasurer and member of the Valley Central School District Audit Committee and as Election Inspector for Orange County. Congratulations Peter on the new path of your Rotary journey.
Walden Rotary Club members send Happy Anniversary congratulations to Al and Flo Valk on December 26. Let’s wish them all life’s best.
The Walden Rotary Club is keeping busy ringing the bell to collect funds for the Salvation Army! You will find them at ShopRite in Montgomery and the Thruway Sporting Store in Walden.

Robert Score, talented artist noted for his pen and ink drawings has donated several prints as a fundraiser for the Walden Historical Society. There are still a few left: 1 unframed print of the iron bridge in Montgomery and 2 prints of the Montgomery Wallkill Valley steam engine. Each print measures 10” x 14”. They are offered for sale at $25. If mailing is needed there is a charge of $5 for handling plus postage. For information call Anita at 778-7772; Sandy at 845-401-2795 or Barbara at 845-220-6606.

Please mark your calendar to participate in the Walden Historical Society fundraiser. Order food for takeout only at Franco’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant , 4 Oak Street, Walden, Franco will donate 20% of your meal purchase to the society! Place your order on Tuesday, December 29, 5 - 9 p.m. to participate. Required coupons available online, at the Josephine-Louise Public Library or by calling 7778-7772.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their first indoor yard sale of 2021 on Saturday, January 2, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Face masks are required. All proceeds benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. For information call the shelter at 778-5115. Please continue the season of giving. Please bring a donation of food or cleaning supplies.

There is still a few more days left to purchase Walden Community Council’s 2021 Lottery Calendar! For a $20 donation you have a chance to win $25 daily/$40 on Sunday/$75 on Holidays. No drawing on Christmas Day. $100 - New Year’s Eve. Lottery cards are available at the Josephine-Louise Public Library or by calling Anita at 778-7772 or Jean at 778-1602.

The Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department has planned a special New Year’s Eve event on Thursday, December 31, 7 - 9 p.m. A free online concert with the Dan Brother Band will be live streamed on Walden Rec Facebook page (facebook.com/walden.recreation). Following the Concert there will be fireworks at 9:20 p.m. at James Olley Park for viewing from your home or viewing on our live stream on Facebook.

Continuing with Village of Walden’s resident’s Winter weather responsibilities - it shall be the duty of the owner and occupant, jointly, of every parcel of real estate adjoining a sidewalk to keep such sidewalks adjoining such property free from snow and ice for the full width of such sidewalk or for the minimum width of four feet, whichever is less.
Owners and occupants of corner properties shall have additional and continual duty to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks to the curbs for a minimum of four feet so as to provide safe access to the streets. Snow and ice shall be removed within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall.

The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:

Just a reminder: The library has been waiving all late fees on returned materials since March. We will continue this practice through next Spring. Items are returned through the outdoor book drop are quarantined for a time before they are checked in. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call 845-778-7621 or stop at the Main Desk next time you are in.
Christmas closing dates will be Thursday, December 24, 3 p.m. for Christmas Eve and closed on Friday, December 25 for Christmas Day New Year’s closings will be 3 p.m. Thursday, December 31, and Friday, January 1, 2021.
