Vision of Wallkill beautifies hamlet

Vision of Wallkill (VOW), a community revitalization group, placed murals depicting whimsical bovines and the hamlet’s history in vacant spaces in preparation for Weekend of Wallkill.

VOW members painted 10 murals and placed them in vacant spaces around the hamlet. VOW Treasurer Julia Craner said all murals had a cow theme to pay homage to the hamlet’s history.

The murals beautify the hamlet and spread awareness for the Weekend of Wallkill event, Craner said.

“The main goal is to add color to the hamlet and dress it up,” Craner said.

Craner said VOW’s long-term goal is to revitalize the hamlet.

Held Sept. 20 and 21, the annual Weekend of Wallkill features an art show, team trivia, a touch a truck, contests, a drone demo, a wizard academy show, billy goat bingo, a prime rib dinner and more. The weekend begins with a team trivia contest and a free family movie night at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

Entry forms and a complete list of events, contests and shows are available on the Vision of Wallkill Facebook page. All activities will take place on or near the Wallkill Public Library lawn unless otherwise noted.
