In an effort to keep New Yorkers safe during the coronavirus pandemic on Monday evening, Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order delaying village elections statewide until Tuesday, April 28. The elections were to have taken place on March 18.

“Our top priority has been keeping New Yorkers safe and stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus,” Cuomo said. “Public health officials have been clear that reducing density is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread and delaying village elections will help ensure poll workers and voters are not potentially exposed to the virus and at the same time maintain integrity in our election.”

Affected by the decision is the Village of Walden Election in which John Ramos, Cheryl Baker and Willie Carley are running unopposed for three seats on the village board.

Local officials agreed that postponing elections was the best decision.
“Whatever is in the best interest of the public is most important...,” said Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy, who is running unopposed for re-election. “Right now all my focus is on the coronavirus. We’re keeping an eye on things and making sure everything is alright.”

Also running unopposed in Maybrook are Trustees Daryl Capozzoli and Robert Pritchard.
