Two die in Wallkill fire

Posted

On Sunday morning at about 12:30 a.m., multiple fire, police and emergency medical service personnel responded to 550 Burnt Meadows Road in Shawangunk for a 911 call for a house fire.

Initial responders discovered a nine-year-old girl outside the home, who had been pushed out a window to safety by her father, later identified as Joseph J. Hull, 50. He then was reported to have remained in the residence to locate his other child Joseph D. Hull, 7.

Firefighters were eventually able to locate and remove both the boy and his son from the residence. Both were taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where they were later pronounced dead.

The origin of the fire remains under investigation, however foul play is not currently suspected.

Agencies involved in the investigation included the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Shawangunk Police, New York State Police, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Ulster County Department of Emergency Management, fire companies from Shawangunk Valley, Walker Valley, Wallkill, Gardiner and Modena as well as Mobile Life Support Services and the New Paltz Rescue Squad.
