Tuesday Trek: Old Powerhouse and Peter’s Kill Loop Snowshoe Outing at Minnewaska

Posted

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for an adventurous outing along the edge of the Peter’s Kill stream. Our first destination is the site of the old powerhouse for the former hotels once located at Lake Minnewaska. Some may find this off-trail walk challenging as it includes a stream crossing, bushwhacking and a steep, rocky section. We’ll return to join the Red Loop Footpath, which continues along the edges of the

Peter’s Kill stream. If conditions are safe, we’ll continue to the Bullwheel and High Peter’s Kill Footpaths to reach Compass Rock, which offers a vast scenic view. The total distance for this outing is approximately two-and-a-half miles. A limited number of snowshoes are available from the education department for this outing. Otherwise, snowshoes may be rented from the Park Preserve Office, located at the Peter’s Kill Area, for $5 per person for this program. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike. If conditions are icy, participants may want to bring Micro Spikes or other traction devices. Early arrival is requested for snowshoe rental. Meet at the Peter’s Kill Parking Area. Pre-registration is required by

calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.
